As an American horse racing fan, I couldn’t agree more. I think that American horse racing would be very wise to move to synthetic surfaces for a variety of reasons The first being safety & the second being that if American breeding began to focus more on synthetic success, you would see more American horses capable of competing in Europe’s elite races. As it is, American breeding doesn’t focus on this, and the result is no American try to compete in Europe because we wouldn’t stand a chance.

She’s five. There aren’t too many horses older than 5 still racing, much less at this level. And besides, the majority of the best horses this year were 3 years old. I don’t understand how that is taking anything away from her.

I think it’s the matter of racing at different tracks in different environments, not just traveling distance. Zenyatta did travel to Kentucky but was scratched and returned to California. She raced in one state in all 5 starts this year.

I´m not taking anything away from her but… 1. She´s not a filly, she´s a mare 2. Only two of the horses in that field is older than she is 3. She is a closer, so she always starts out dead last…A beautiful performance tho! :-)

Still as good now as it was on Nov. 7th. Just an awesome display by a mare that’s all heart.

“Every year we get a horse of the year. There is only one Zenyatta.”

Horse of the Year for Sure!! Serena who? One of the most amazing performances you will ever see by any horse. All heart. Rachael runs on the front with blazing speed, but it takes a different kind of animal to take aim and run down the best colts in the world. Great call by Trevor Denham.

Beating older colts, when starting on the wrong lead, giving away 12+ lengths at the beginning, still boxed in the turn then finding room and blowing past great colts in the stretch is amazing for not only a filly, but even to see a colt do that would be amazing. What a powerful filly!!!
